The Girl with the Dragon tattoo/Men who hate women has the distinction of being the only book I have ever bought and thrown in a dustbin half read. I bought it at the airport on my way to Denmark last year and threw it in a bin at Copenhagen Airport having decided that life is too short to wade through descriptions of such unpleasant encounters with details that I'd really rather not know.

I've been waiting to hear what you thought of the Larsson. I tried reading it last year after numerous rave reviews, but I couldn't get into it. Way too many characters whose relationships were no more than a list without reason and a plot that I didn't care to see advanced. It felt very contrived for me, and I quit after no more than 100 pages. It wasn't badly written, just not my thing. I'm glad that someone else feels similarly, especially after so much hype.
