I'm with you on "Never Let Me Go." I think many people imported their memories of reading "The Remains of the Day" into their reviews of this book. It also would have benefited from tighter editing.

Hmmm... curious to see what you think of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Not my favorite, but it had some moments. It's a thriller, not literary fiction -- I wish I had kept that in mind as I read it.

I do, however, recommend "The Glass Room," by Simon Mawer, which I just read. It's not up there with Byatt's latest, for example, but it brought something to the table, and I can see why it was considered for the Booker Prize.
